Note: I originally posted this Nov. 23, Black Friday, which is obviously not a great day to ask readers for their feedback. In honor of Giving Tuesday [3], I'm reposting this.

On a day when many, many people are out Christmas shopping, I thought it might be a good time to talk about charities and the holiday season.
A few years ago, I put together a blog post offering to let people write in the comments about the charities they love, [4] or the charities they run that could use your donations this holiday season. I'm doing it again. I love giving charity donations in honor of loved ones at Christmas, so I'm hoping you readers will weigh in.
Also, I've written before about why I give blood [5], even though I hate it, and I thought today would be a good one to remind you that Community Blood Services of Central Illinois [6] always needs donors during the holidays.
I'm heading this afternoon to their beautiful new facility in Urbana.
I give because there is absolutely no substitute for blood - not donating money, not volunteering your time. Plus - you get guilt-free junk food when you're done!

This year I'll be supporting Sacks for Sandy [13].
They're collecting gifts to give to kids affected by hurricane Sandy. I think it's a great idea.
