I keep thinking I’ve worn shorts for the last time this year ... and then it gets warm again. We’ve got at least a few more days of shorts weather this year. Take advantage of it.
Here’s the list of upcoming races:
Weekend of Dec. 1-2:
— Polar Paws
This is a 10K or 5K run with dogs on Saturday at Centennial Park. There will be various dog and human awards, so you might want to consider getting the pup a costume, or at least some reindeer antlers.
The race is sponsored by the Champaign Park District. Go to page 5 of the park district’s Funformation guide for more information. Here’s the link [2] to the guide.
— Champaign Jingle Bell Run
This 5K run/walk is Sunday at Centennial Park. There’s also a costume contest.

— Team Luke 5K
This is a 5K run/walk, a 1-mile fun run and a kids fun run on Saturday in Effingham. It is being held to benefit and honor of Luke Johnson, a child who will be undergoing a bone marrow transplant as treatment for leukemia. Part of the proceeds from the race will go to the Pope John Paul II Stem Cell Research Institute.

— Mike Walsh Memorial 5K
This race is on Saturday at Bement Grade School. The race proceeds will benefit local athletic scholarship and athletic programs.
