LEXINGTON, Ky. — Former Illinois assistant Anne Kordes was named Northeast Region Coach of the Year on Tuesday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
Kordes was honored after guiding Louisville to a 30-4 record this season, including 14-1 in the Big East Conference. The Cardinals won the Big East regular season and tournament titles, the first dual conference crowns in the same year in program history.
Louisville also earned a No. 10 national seed in the NCAA tournament and advanced to the second round. The Cardinals were ranked as high as ninth in the AVCA Top 25 poll this season.
Kordes, who served on the UI staff from 1999 to 2003, is a two-time AVCA Region Coach of the Year honoree. In 2008, while at Saint Louis University, she was named Northeast Region Coach of the Year.
