URBANA – Melvina Ann Hopkins, 47, of Urbana passed away peacefully at home on Saturday (Dec. 1, 2012).
Celebration of life services will be Saturday (Dec. 8, 2012) at Salem Baptist Church, 500 E. Park St, Champaign. Visitation will began at 11 a.m., with services following at noon. Officiant will be the Rev. Dr. Claude E. Shelby Sr., pastor.
Melvina was born May 26, 1965, to Curtis McClain and Mary Hopkins in Chicago. Melvina attended Chicago public schools, with her fondest memories being at DuSable High School.
Melvina later moved to the Champaign-Urbana area, where she made her home and raised her family.
Melvina learned early in life to face life challenges as they came. Taking the bitter with the sweet and smiling through it all, Melvina always knew that God, family and friends were her rock. Melvina's giving heart will always be remembered, and the love she shared will forever simmer in so many who knew and loved her.
Melvina leaves to mourn her mother, Mary Hopkins; fiance, Will Ash; sons, Charles Lee Jr., Melvin Hopkins and Johnathan Hopkins; daughters, Christal Hopkins, Shameka Hopkins, Vercia Hopkins, Charlesetta Hopkins, Sherece Hopkins and Johnashia Hopkins; and one sister, Brandy Williams.
Melvina was preceded in death by her father.
