The Fit List will be appearing less frequently in the next couple of months, as the races are getting fewer and farther between. But I’ll still have a list of winter races periodically.
Here’s the list through the first weekend in January:
Weekend of Dec. 8-9:
— Da Deer Run Run
This is an 8K Euro-style cross country race on Saturday at Comlara County Park near Hudson. The race includes trails, steeplechase barriers and creek crossings.
Here’s a link for more information and to register, and here’s the race brochure .
— Mt. Zion Odd Fellows Frosty 5K
This race is Saturday in Mt. Zion, and it’s limited to the first 75 entrants. Runners get entered in a drawing for VISA gift cards, and there’s food afterward.

— Miller Chill Cyclocross
These cyclocross races are Sunday in Bloomington. And after you race, you can compete in the log pulling event!

— Kankakee Jingle Bell Run
This 5K run/walk is Sunday in Kankakee. I like that the Kankakee Daily Journal has been a huge supporter of this race.

Weekend of Dec. 22-23:
— Reindeer Run
This is a 5K run and a 1-mile Deer Dash on Saturday, Dec. 22, in Sullivan. There’s also a costume contest.

This trail run is Saturday, Dec. 29, at Chain O’ Lakes State Park in Albion, Ind. (northeast Indiana). It includes an individual 50K race, a three-person 50K relay and a 10-mile run.
You can register through Dec. 26. There is no race day registration. Here’s a link for more information.
New Year’s Eve:
— Body n’ Sole Sports New Year’s Eve Fun Run
This is the 15th year for Body n’ Sole to organize a New Year’s Eve run. It’s a 3-mile fun run starting from the store in Savoy. The run benefits the Eastern Illinois Foodbank — that’s where your $10 entry fee will go. You’ll get a t-shirt and there are snacks and door prizes after the run.
The run is limited to 175 people. Sign up at the store.
— Neoga Frozen 5K
This is a 5K and a 1-mile fun run in the early afternoon on New Year’s Eve. It’s at Neoga Elementary School, and the race proceeds go towards an all-weather track for Neoga schools.

— Get Lit New Year’s Eve Fun Run
This race starts just before midnight in East Peoria at its Festival of Lights Winter Wonderland display. This is a non-competitive 2-mile run/walk.

Weekend of Jan. 5-6:
— Siberian Express
I’m looking forward to doing this race again after missing it the last two years. It’s Saturday, Jan. 5, at Kickapoo State Recreation Area near Oakwood. The race is a 7.45-mile trail run, and it’s one of Kennekuk Road Runners four big races. Do all four and you get a Grand Slam award.
