URBANA — A Champaign man found to have violated the probation he was on for driving under the influence of alcohol has been resentenced to a year in the Champaign County jail.
Jason Gaddis, 29, who listed an address in the 800 block of West Vine Street, had been sentenced in February to two years of probation and three months in the county jail after pleading guilty to DUI.
He was arrested in June 2011 after he hit a 9-year-old girl who was riding her bicycle across Vine Street near Prairie in Champaign. He left the scene but was chased by witnesses who followed him to the 700 block of West Hill Street, where they encouraged him to stop and wait for police. The girl was treated and released for her injuries.
In October, Judge John Kennedy found that Gaddis had violated his probation by continuing to drink alcohol, which he was ordered not to do.
Assistant State's Attorney Matt Banach said Gaddis' alcohol monitoring bracelet showed that his blood alcohol concentration was 0.12 percent on June 24 and 0.16 percent on Sept. 1.
When arrested for hitting the girl on the bike, Gaddis' blood alcohol concentration was 0.219 percent.
At Gaddis' resentencing last week, Kennedy ordered that Gaddis was not entitled to any good time on his new sentence, nor was he eligible for home confinement.
