CHAMPAIGN — Local musicians will come together twice in the next two weeks — on Tuesday and Dec. 18 — to perform Christmas benefit shows for the local Toys for Tots organization.
The shows, organized by Todd Durnil's Nightjar Promotions and the Champaign-Urbana Singer-Songwriter Collective, will start at 7 p.m. both days at the Clark Bar, 207 W. Clark St., C.
At each, a dozen or so singer-songwriters will perform original Christmas songs they wrote for the benefit shows. They also will perform lesser-known Christmas songs and holiday standards.
The minimum donation for admission to each is $5 — or an item for Toys for Tots. WCIA-Channel 3 is co-sponsoring the show Tuesday; people who drop off a toy at the TV station, 509 S. Neil St., C, for Toys for Tots will receive free admission to the show.
The performers Tuesday will be Jeff Arrigo, Jammin' Jimmy Bean, Lori Bernard, Anne Clements, John Coppess, William Dicker, Megan Johns, Justin Kessel, Mark Laughlin, Michael Meadows, Gloria Roubal and Paul Sabuco.
The lineup for Dec. 18: William Dicker, John McMahon, Midas the Crow, The Mourning After, Margaret O'Brien, Morgan Orion, Emily Otnes, Kenna Reiss, Justin Rondon, Eric Strubinger and Tomorrow is Already Here.
Santa Claus also will appear and sing at each show.
