URBANA — An Urbana man who admitted that he videotaped his girlfriend and her daughter without their knowledge was sentenced Friday to 30 months of probation and a $1,000 fine.
Clifford L. Evans, 54, who listed an address in the 600 block of South Glover Street, pleaded guilty to unauthorized video recording, a felony.
He admitted that in March he made video recordings of his 56-year-old girlfriend and her 20-year-old daughter as they got in and out of the shower in the bathroom of his home where they were staying.
Assistant State's Attorney Sarah Carlson said the older woman noticed an alarm clock radio sitting in the bathroom, which hadn't previously been there, and asked Evans why it was there. He was unable to give her an explanation and reacted nervously, Carlson said. When the woman examined the radio more closely, she discovered a camera hidden in it.
The woman brought the radio to the attention of police. They got a search warrant and found on his laptop computer pictures of the women in the nude that he had downloaded from the hidden camera.
Carlson said Evans, who was ordered to get a sex offender evaluation, had a 1992 conviction from Georgia for child molestation.
