Since the rise of the Tea Party; a group of citizens with differing interests have come together based on their commonalities. They oppose taxes for any reason. They believe in conspiracies. They feel that they have been excluded by the majority of society. They are bitter toward minorities, changing political demographics, and government. They feel that they are a growing majority when everything around them indicates that they are a growing minority. They are composed of mostly middle age to elderly white males. They differ in income levels; but whatever their income, they believe that wealth should be revered. They are sustained by their shared characteristics of greed, ignorance, and selfishness.
Isn't it about time that the majority of citizens who support the belief of democracy in America stand up, and denounce those who impede our country from moving forward? This country is facing self destruction due to a minority of right wing radicals refusing to accept contemporary America. Rather than ignore them, confront them.
Sounds like Charlie McCarthy
Sounds like Charlie McCarthy asking Elmer Snerd a question.
Gosh Sid that is really
Gosh Sid that is really harsh.
Some of the small points you make have some basis but most of them do not.
Have you attended the smaller Tea Party meetings and actually gotten to know any of these folks? I have. While I'm not a member I certainly do not hold them in contempt as you apparantly do.
I highly recommend you attend some meetings and get to know some of these folks as people and what they do in the communities before you castigate them and run them off.
You might find some of them are your uncles, your family members or at least a professor from the U of I and or a neighbor you think highly of.
The great freedom we have in this nation is for public debate. But in that debate we should not be calling names and making claims that are just not true even though we may think they are.
The fact is many of these people are highly regarded and loved in their communities and are very giving.
Trust me, there is more to this then you are realising.
First time? Many of us know
First time? Many of us know SS only too well. Read some of his posts, he only gets better.
Regarding the TEA Party, I'm also not a card-carrying member but absolutely believe and empathize with their original platform based on their acronym: Taxed Enough Already.
Originally a Ron Paul grass roots movement, I followed the evolution of the TEA Party movement and knew that when Sarah Palin was the featured speaker at the first national TEA Party rally that the Repub neocons had hijacked the TEA Party movement. It's only gone downhill ever since. All sorts of non-TEA Party planks were added to the original TEA Party platform, which, as plannned by the neocons, only divided the TEA Party as a whole.
But as a grass-roots movement, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. As Bob Dylan put it in a verse, 'Don't follow leaders.' In my opinion, the TEA Party should be about local folks trying to raise awareness among their friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Our taxes have to be raised in order to keep from going over a financial cliff? I don't think so. We have over 800 military bases in over 130 countries and the leaders of both political parties are warning us to prepare for smaller SS checks, reduced Medicare, an infrastructure that is crumbling. C'mon...
When it finally comes down to the ruling .001% and the rest of us, then maybe people will awaken and wonder how it got to be so bad. The TEA Party should be shining the lights now.
Have you ever listened to Tea
Have you ever listened to Tea Party members? Have you ever listened to them at their rallys? Ron Paul may be eloquent, and rationale with some of his ideas; but the Tea Party leaders are not that. They go from anti-abortion, anti-gay, to conspiracy nuts. It is a mixed bag of frustrated, old simpletons. Yeah, your right about the neo-cons manipulating them. They were made to be manipulated.
