CHAMPAIGN – Services to celebrate the life of Claude E. Shelby Jr. will be held at noon Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at the Salem Baptist Church, 500 E. Park St. Champaign, with the Rev. Donald Hunter as eulogist. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign. Visitations will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 10 a.m. Friday, both times at the church.
Claude was born June 3, 1950, in St. Louis, the son of the Rev. Claude E. and Montrula Shields Shelby Sr. In April, he married Willy Mae Hoff. She survives.
Also surviving are his parents, four sisters, eight children and several grandchildren.
He transitioned peacefully at 2:30 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 8, 2012).
Prior to moving to Champaign, he was a maintenance worker at the Monsanto chemical plant in East St. Louis.
