Area law enforcement officials have been recognized for their efforts in bringing people to justice for child pornography.
Officials held a news conference on Thursday morning in Urbana to announce the effort by the Department of Homeland Security; the Champaign, Urbana and University of Illinois police departments and others in Operation Blue Monday. The work by investigators has to led to eight arrests since late July in Champaign, DeWitt, Douglas and Vermilion counties.
Michael Mitchell is the resident agent in charge of Homeland Security investigations out of Springfield. He said children are permanently harmed by the acts of child pornographers.

Urbana Police Chief Patrick Connolly said it takes a group effort to tackle the problem of child pornography.

The eight who have been arrested since late July are facing a number of charges, including distribution, receiving and possession of child pornography.
