URBANA — A Champaign teen who admitted his part in a street mugging that happened last month has been sentenced to 30 months of probation.
Uriah Watson, 17, who listed an address in the 700 block of South Randolph Street, pleaded guilty to theft from person, admitting that on Nov. 2 he stole an iPhone from a 20-year-old man who was walking on John Street near Second Street.
The victim told police two men, one of whom had a gun, robbed him of his phone and wallet about 12:10 a.m.
He immediately reported the incident and Watson and co-defendant James Webb, 19, also of Champaign, were arrested within moments of the holdup.
Webb is due back in court March 5 on an aggravated robbery charge.
That same charge was dismissed in Watson's case in exchange for his guilty plea. Watson was also sentenced to 48 days in jail and given credit for time already served. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
