Happy New Year from The Fit List!
Here’s a rundown of New Year’s Eve races in the area, so you can end 2012 right, and a trail race the first weekend in January, to start your 2013 racing:
New Year’s Eve:
— Body n’ Sole Sports New Year’s Eve Fun Run
This is the 15th year for Body n’ Sole to organize a New Year’s Eve run. It’s a 3-mile fun run starting from the store in Savoy. The run benefits the Eastern Illinois Foodbank — that’s where your $10 entry fee will go. You’ll get a t-shirt and there are snacks and door prizes after the run.
The run is limited to 175 people. Sign up at the store.
— Neoga Frozen 5K
This is a 5K and a 1-mile fun run in the early afternoon on New Year’s Eve. It’s at Neoga Elementary School, and the race proceeds go towards an all-weather track for Neoga schools.

— Get Lit New Year’s Eve Fun Run
This race starts just before midnight in East Peoria at its Festival of Lights Winter Wonderland display. This is a non-competitive 2-mile run/walk.

— 2 Miles to MILES
This is a 5K run and a 2K run in the afternoon on New Year’s Eve at the YMCA in Decatur. Race proceeds benefit the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.

Weekend of Jan. 5-6:
— Siberian Express
I’m looking forward to doing this race again after missing it the last two years. It’s Saturday, Jan. 5, at Kickapoo State Park near Oakwood. The race is a 7.45-mile trail run, and it’s one of Kennekuk Road Runners four big races. Do all four and you get a Grand Slam award.
