GILMAN — Two Chicago residents received what police called “non-life threatening injuries” in a single vehicle crash Tuesday morning in Iroquois County.
According to a state police report, Sandra J. Lambert, 21, of Chicago, was driving a sport utility vehicle north on Interstate 57 at milepost 285 near Gilman when she fell asleep at 8:28 a.m. Tuesday.
Lambert’s vehicle drifted onto the left shoulder of the highway and hit the median cables. The vehicle then ran over the cables and overturned in the center median ditch.
While Lambert was wearing a seat belt, her passenger, Derrick L. Lambert, 23, of Chicago, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle.
Police said both of them refused treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
Police ticketed Sandra Lambert for improper lane usage and Derrick Lambert for failure to wear a seat belt.
Talk about a Christmas miracle...
