CHAMPAIGN - A 16-year-old Urbana girl was arrested early Saturday after she allegedly stabbed a boy in a northwest Champaign neighborhood in the neck.
Champaign County sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Vercler said deputies were called to the 1400 block of Kingsway Drive about 12:35 a.m. where there were at least 20 people gathered on the street.
Vercler said deputies learned that the girl had been arguing with a 16-year-old boy from Chicago and that he was stabbed in the neck. The victim wasn't sure what the girl used to stab him with and deputies were unable to recover a weapon.
The victim was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital, where he was able to talk to deputies. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, Vercler said.
The girl was arrested for aggravated battery and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center. Vercler declined to identify the girl or the victim because they are juveniles.
