TITUSVILLE, Fla. – Evelyn Moore, 70, of Titusville, Fla., formerly of Sadorus, passed away peacefully at 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, after complications due to pneumonia.
Evelyn, the daughter of Philip and Gertrude Mulry, was born Oct. 20, 1942, in Port Washington, N.Y.
In 1965, she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and later obtained her Master's Degree from Nova Southeastern University in West Palm Beach, Fla.
She married the love of her life, the late Richard "Dick" Moore, in 1965 and they lived in the Sadorus and Pesotum areas until she retired after 17 years from the State of Illinois Department of Public Aid as an assistant administrator. They moved to Florida in 1986.
She was injured in a car accident in 1961. She later was involved in wheelchair sports (predominantly swimming) at the UI. She was awarded the UI athletic letter. Evelyn competed in the Paralympics and traveled all over the world while with the Paralympics, winning lots of medals along the way. She was inducted into the Wheelchair Hall of Fame in 1976.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her son Justin "Judd" Moore (Colleen Moore) of West Palm Beach, Fla.; her grandson, Austin Moore, of White Heath; her sister, Loretta Mulry; and brother, Philip Mulry, of Titusville, Fla.
Memorial Mass will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tolono. Visitation will be for an hour prior to Mass at the church. Burial will be at Craw Cemetery in Sadorus, immediately following the services, then a Celebration of Life at the Sadorus Town Hall.
