RANTOUL – Verna Lee Hills, 79, of Rantoul went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday (Jan. 1, 2013) after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Valley Center, Kan., on Jan. 24, 1933, to Henry and Anna (Teton) Talbott. She married Donald G. Hills on Aug. 8, 1953. He preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 2005.
She leaves behind to grieve three sons, Terry Hills of Halstead, Kan., Greg (Brenda) Hills of Rantoul and Don (Colleen) Hills of Avondale Estates, Ga.; a daughter Maleea (John) Hogberg of Bolingbrook; six grandchildren, Jason, Kyle, Ian, Adrienne, Jessica and Andrew; five great-grandchildren, Tim, Isabella, Arianna, Rosalia and Leilah; two sisters, Irene Sommerfield and Mildred Huebert; and many family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law (Dianne Hills), two brothers and a sister.
She worked for years in Civil Service and retired in 1993, after 20 years of service.
She was an excellent cook and loved to bake, do crafts and sew. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Illini fan. She loved her dogs and cats.
She was a member of Grace Church in Mahomet.
The family would like to thank Heartland Health Care in Paxton and Carle for the care she received.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Grace Church, 800 W. Oak St., Mahomet. Pastor Andrew Powell will officiate.
The family will be greeting friends for one hour prior to the service at Grace Church. Lux Memorial Chapel, Rantoul, is handling the arrangements.
