CHAMPAIGN – Wylma Jean Kelley Sizer, 82, longtime resident of Fisher and Mahomet, passed away peacefully at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 1, 2013) at Champaign-Urbana Regional Rehab Center in Savoy.
Visitation will be at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm St., Champaign, from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, with funeral service following at 11 a.m. The Rev. Wesley Wilkey will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Route 47, Mahomet.
Wylma was born on Sept. 9, 1930, in Tuscola, a daughter of Henry M. and Hazel M. (Smith) Kelley. She married Bruce E. Sizer on Feb. 4, 1951, at Mahomet. He preceded her in death on April 23, 2003.
She is survived by one daughter, Kathleen A. Roush (Terry) of Mahomet; one son, Gregory E. Sizer (Cheryl) of Mahomet; four grandchildren, Charlotte Sizer (Elsie Zietlow), Travis Sizer, David Roush and Ashlie Sizer; one great-grandson, Cayden Sizer; one brother, Vergil W. Kelley of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sisters-in-law, Donna (Harold) Menacher of Champaign and Mary Lou Kelley of Satellite Beach, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother, an infant son, David E. Sizer, and a son, Jeffrey B. Sizer.
Wylma graduated from Mahomet High School in 1948 as the valedictorian of her class. She worked for the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine until Bruce entered the Army and together they moved to California and North Carolina while in the service.
Following the Army, she and Bruce returned to Fisher to farm and raise their family in the Fisher community for 52 years.
Wylma loved her life as full-time farm wife, mother and grandmother.
She was a very active member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, Mahomet, where she taught Sunday School, helped with dinners, served on many committees and was a member of United Methodist Women.
She was also an active member of the Fisher Evening Club for many years.
Her hobbies included reading, sewing, flower gardening and cooking wonderful meals. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to the Wylma Kelley-Sizer Memorial Scholarship Fund through Busey Bank, 312 E. Main St., Mahomet, IL 61853, to be awarded to a Mahomet-Seymour High School graduate pursuing a career in education.
