In a little hole in the wall town an hour south of Champaign, the winter silence is about to be shattered. In two weeks, one of the best up-and-coming jam bands the scene has to offer will be coming to Mac's Uptowner in Charleston on Friday, January 18th: Old Shoe. Blending laid-back, southern-fried blues with hippie vocal sensibilities and sprinkling in a dash of choice covers, it's a musical experience you won't soon forget.
I first saw Old Shoe at Summer Camp 2012, and I was mesmerized by the way their laid-back grooves started gaining speed and
without warning launched into sheer face-melting goodness. The steam in the crowd seemed to come straight from their instruments, it was gnarly. But this show at the Uptowner will give fans a chance to get their dancing shoes on and break the monotony of the cold, dead Charleston winter. For only a $5 cover, there's not much more you can ask for. Old Shoe will draw you in with the fun they're clearly having on stage, but by the time the song is over, you wonder if they didn't somehow transform into musical wizards who transformed the very air around you.
So if you live around Charleston and you're not at the Uptowner on the 18th, you're missing out, because nothing else is going to
be as good. Hope to see you all there.
