URBANA — A Peoria man who told a University of Illinois student that he planned to kill his mother was sentenced Wednesday to two years of probation.
Eric Collier, 40, pleaded guilty before Champaign County Judge Tom Difanis to telephone harassment.
Assistant State's Attorney Lindsey Clark said that on Sept. 20, Collier called a 20-year-old Champaign man who is the son of Collier's ex-girlfriend and said, "I'm going to kill your mother. God knows it." Clark said Collier then followed up with a text message that said: "I don't lie."
Collier was also sentenced to 20 days in the county jail for the felony but was given credit for time already served.
