URBANA — A Georgia man who police say had about three-fourths of a pound of suspected cannabis in the trunk of his car on an interstate highway in Champaign County has been criminally charged.
Kaiee Crowder, 40, of Atlanta, was driving on I-57 near Champaign about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday when an Illinois state trooper stopped his car for following another too closely.
Assistant State's Attorney Dan Clifton said the trooper smelled the odor of burned cannabis and Crowder admitted he had a small amount in his console.
The trooper then searched the trunk and found about three-fourths of a pound of cannabis, 8.7 grams of alleged cocaine, and several hundred plastic bags, which Clifton said are commonly used for packaging drugs.
Crowder was charged with possession with intent to deliver cannabis, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, possession of cannabis and possession of cocaine. If convicted of the most serious he faces penalties ranging from probation to one to four years in prison.
Judge Richard Klaus set his bond at $50,000 and told him to be back in court with his own attorney Jan. 24.
