URBANA — A Champaign man was sentenced to 30 months of conditional discharge, which is a form of probation, after he pleaded guilty to a drug charge.
D'Andre Miller, 26, who listed an address in the 200 block of Arcadia Drive, Champaign, pleaded guilty on Friday to unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
As part of a plea agreement, a charge of manufacture or delivery of cocaine and a charge of manufacture or delivery of marijuana were dismissed.
Judge Heidi Ladd sentenced Miller to 30 months of conditional discharge and two days in the county jail, with Miller receiving credit for two days he has already served in the jail.
According to an Urbana police report, the street crime unit was watching known drug locations on May 16, 2012, when they saw a vehicle behind a business in the 1900 block of Cunningham Avenue.
Making contact with the people inside, they saw marijuana in plain sight and open alcohol.
Miller and a second man, Otis Turner, 31, who listed an address in the 1300 block of Fairfax Drive, Champaign, were front-seat passengers, the report said.
Police found about 1.4 ounces of marijuana and about 2 grams of crack cocaine in several plastic bags inside the car near where the two men were seated. Miller also had a small amount of cocaine in a cigarette pack on him, the report said.
Turner's next court appearance has been set for Jan. 29.
That will stop them Put them on probation. next time they will have guns in the car and they can give them 5 years probation.
It's worked every other time this guy's been on probation. Sooo effective. I wonder why crime is increasing in the area. Maybe our prosecutor should start prosecuting every once in a while....Novel concept.
