BEMENT – Robert D. Stevens Sr., 78, of Bement passed away at 12:50 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 10, 2013) at the Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. today (Monday) at the Roux-Hinds Funeral Home, 348 N. Piatt St., Bement. The Rev. Steve Ingram and the Rev. Don Morr will officiate.
Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Bement Township Cemetery, Bement. Military graveside rites will be given by the Albert Parker American Legion Post 620 of Bement.
Memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church of Bement.
Bob was born on March 1, 1934, in Dexter, Mo., a son of John and Mildred Aarant Stevens.
He married Ellen M. Burns on Dec. 20, 1953, in Monticello, and she passed away on Jan. 23, 2009.
Surviving children include Robert D. (Melanie) Stevens Jr. of Bement, Elizabeth (Randy) Rodgers of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Rebecca (Greg) Olson of Lincoln, Neb., as well as five grandchildren, Mollie and Eric Stevens, Patrick, Timothy and Kyrstina Rodgers.
Also surviving are three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Leonard Aarant of Sikeston, Mo., Leslie Stevens of Finger, Calif., Ralph Stevens of Imperial, Mo., and Leon Stevens of Timberling City, Mo.; as well as two sisters, Geraldine Stevens White of Overland, Mo., and Janice Stevens Baker of Dexter, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a brother, Earl Stevens; and four sisters.
Bob was an Air Force veteran, a member of the First Baptist Church of Bement and a former member of the Bement Lions Club.
Roux-Hinds Funeral Home, 348 N. Piatt St., Bement, has been entrusted by his family to honor Bob's life.
