CHAMPAIGN – Dennis Luedke, M.D., 77, of Bonita Springs, Fla., died on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013. Formerly of Dallas, Texas, he had been a Bonita resident since 1989.
He was born Nov. 16, 1935, in Urbana, the son of Robert William and Maude Marie (nee Block) Luedke. After growing up in Broadlands, he graduated from the University of Illinois and went on to medical school and a residency at the University of Louisville.
He served in the U.S. Army as a captain and medical officer.
His career at the Dallas Bone and Joint Clinic spanned 30 years until his retirement in 1989.
Dr. Luedke is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Ann (nee Ludwig); his beloved daughters, Julie Luedke (Andy) Lindenmeyer of Arcola and Cindy Luedke (Bob) Podner of Dallas, Texas; his stepchildren, William (Laura) Middleton of Chicago and Jeffrey Middleton of Eau Claire, Wis.; brother, Paul (Brenda) Luedke of Broadlands; his grandsons and "best friends," Nicholas, Brett and Blake Lindenmeyer; grandchildren, Mike Middleton, Katie Drum and Nicole and Amanda Middleton; and great-granddaughters, Sophia and Bianca.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sue (nee Cuppy) in 1979, and his grandson Jack in 1997.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs, 9751 Bonita Beach Road. Inurnment will take place in Illinois at a later date.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs, P.O. Box 2168, Bonita Springs, FL 34133, or to the charity of one's choice.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy. Relatives and friends are invited for visiting and remembering from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m.
Inurnment will take place at a later date in Embury Cemetery near Muncie, Ill.
