GIBSON CITY — This small Ford County town is going high tech as council members and department heads will soon receive iPads to access all meeting documents, ordinances and zoning maps.
Council members voted unanimously to purchase 12 16-gigabyte-electronic notepads plus covers for an amount not to exceed $6,000. The devices will be Wi-Fi-enabled only and will not require a monthly cellular data plan.
Each council member will also have a specific city-based email address for access by constituents. Attorney Marc Miller reminded members that all data on the device would be property of the city and that communications between members could not violate the Illinois Open Meetings Act.
In other technology news, the mayor and Alderman Scott Davis unveiled the new look for the city's web page at http://www.gibsoncityillinois.com .
One improvement touted is the ability to easily view city laws. Davis said another goal was for city staff to keep announcements such as street work or water repairs more up to date.
