Panthers (9-1) had individuals finish among the top four in eight of the 14 weight classes while pinning down team honors in the 47th George Girardi Invitational. Alex Matlock (106), Tate Ruffner (113) and Tyler Walsh (120) won titles. Peyton Roop was second at 132, and Ty Sandy won at 220.
CHRISMAN BOYS’ BASKETBALL
The Cardinals (10-9) christened Roger Beals Court with a 51-43 nonconference triumph against Tri-County on Monday. Austin Merritt scored 21 points as Chrisman won for the third time in its last four games. Two decades after he retired, Beals is among the state’s all-time 30 winningest boys’ basketball coaches.
GEORGETOWN-RIDGE FARM GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Buffaloes moved closer to their first Vermilion County tourney title in more than two decades, topping Hoopeston Area and Oakwood in the first two rounds. Maya Green and Brittany Hay have scored in double figures in a four-game winning streak, and Callan Hall has been a dominant rebounder for coach Michelle Brooks.
JUDAH CHRISTIAN GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Tribe won four games in eight days. Kristina Lee had 93 points in the streak. Leslee Chambers had one 20-point game and totaled 47 points for the eight days. Judah is a game behind Decatur Lutheran in the ECIC standings.
SHILOH BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Raiders had 12 three-pointers in a win against Atwood-Hammond and had four double-figure scorers in a win against Cerro Gordo. Eli Furgeson scored in double figures in both games. Also scoring at least 10 points once for coach Charlie Carver’s team: Cole Bogle, D.J. Castillo, Andrew Donithan, Cyrus Furgeson and Kaleb Hood.
