The much anticipated "23 Executive Orders" were released yesterday, and I'm embarrassed to say that I fell for it. He got me. I actually thought that what the what they had to say would actually matter, but it looks like it's mostly fluffery and foolishness. Not all bad, but mostly they have to do with firing off letters here and there, directing various agencies to do their jobs, reminding others of current law, launching dialogue, developing, finalizing, and committing to do various things. I really enjoyed #11 though. "Nominate an ATF Director." He actually ordered himself to nominate an ATF Director. He commanded himself to do his job. Brilliant!!!
Come on people, even if you believe in gun control, you have to admit that this whole business over the past month has been nothing more than a dog and pony show. A production. It's the same thing our state leaders are doing. Both the federal government and the IL state government have a massive, burdensome spending addiction problem they can't seem to reign in. Both are wasting our time talking about everything BUT that spending problem. Gay marriage, gambling, gun control, the list goes on until the next "emergency" arrives. Then it's onto the next thing. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, IL has close to $85 billion in unfunded liabilities growing by millions a day, coupled with a budget deficit around $9 billion even after a massive tax increase; and the federal government has increased our debt 60% since 2009 and still is running a trillion dollar deficit even after TARP and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are ended or coming to a close.
Here's an idea. Perhaps the president can sign an Executive Order requiring himself to submit a budget, on time, to congress that does not spend a Trillion more dollars than they're slated to bring in this year. Or even just to start, how about a budet that is capable of getting even one vote from either party, or even considered to be voted on. How about issuing an Executive Order recommending the Senate pass a budget sometime this decade.

“The government, which was designed for the people, has got into the hands of the bosses and their employers, the special interests. An invisible empire has been set up above the forms of democracy.” – President Woodrow Wilson
bluegrass,
By Jove – I believe you’ve got it!
Now we do have a bit of concern over your conspiratorial thoughts, like – “you have to admit that this whole business over the past month has been nothing more than a dog and pony show. A production.”
Should mental evaluations ever be used to determine gun ownership, such a statement would exclude you from owning a gun, as you apparently question the fact that the Government has your best interest at heart.
As for our ever increasing debt, it's really very simple…
“Capital must protect itself in every way… Debts must be collected and loans and mortgages foreclosed as soon as possible. When through a process of law the common people have lost their homes, they will be more tractable and more easily governed by the strong arm of the law applied by the central power of leading financiers. People without homes will not quarrel with their leaders. This is well known among our principle men now engaged in forming an imperialism of capitalism to govern the world. By dividing the people we can get them to expend their energies in fighting over questions of no importance to us except as teachers of the common herd.” – J.P Morgan
