Just as fellow food-blogger Jeannette Beck writes about finally being done with ham leftovers,  I'm blogging about how Rob made a delicious glazed ham last night.
I recently bought a ham on sale, probably because demand drops off after the holidays.
Rob's strange work schedule had him home yesterday, so he was able to start making it at around 2:30 p.m. It really felt like some sort of 1950s throwback, to be eating a baked, glazed ham on a Thursday evening.
The glaze recipe we used was incredible, and included our homemade mustard,  so I wanted to share. The sugar carmelized on the ham, and it was packed with flavor. Plus, it's not tons of work. You just need plenty of time to let your ham bake.
I found the basis of the recipe here , but changed it up a bit. There was no reason to score diamonds into the ham and stud them with cloves, so the recipe instead includes a small amount of ground cloves. Rob said he used about 1/8 of a cup of our homemade mustard (since it is still really hot) and 1/8 cup of yellow mustard.
Brown sugar-mustard glazed ham
1 ham (ours was spiral sliced and probably about eight pounds)
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1/4 cup prepared mustard
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place ham on a rack in a roasting pan and bake for 1 1/2 hours. In a bowl, combine the cloves, sugar, mustard and vinegar and spread glaze evenly over ham. Bake for another 35 minutes. Transfer ham to a platter and let stand 15 minutes before carving.
