CHAMPAIGN — A Frankfort, Ill., woman was arrested Saturday morning for allegedly having heroin in her car.
University of Illinois Police Lt. Matt Myrick said an officer on patrol about 9 a.m. noticed a car in the 700 block of South Wright Street that had an expired registration.
Upon checking, he found that the driver also used a breath alcohol ignition interlock device, which reads a driver’s blood-alcohol content before allowing the vehicle to be started.
The officer stopped the car and learned that the driver, Shani Harshbarger, 36, had a restricted driving permit and was driving at a time when she wasn’t allowed to.
After arresting her, the officer searched her car and found hypodermic syringes and six small bags of suspected heroin, Myrick said.
Harshbarger was arrested on preliminary charges of driving under the influence of drugs, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She remained at the Champaign County Jail Saturday night.
