TUSCOLA – Dean David "Dave" Garrett, 92, of Tuscola passed away at 11 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 19, 2013) at his residence.
Funeral and military services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 22, 2013) at Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 S. Main St., Tuscola, with the Rev. Kenneth Roedder officiating. No visitation will be held. Burial will be in the Tuscola Township Cemetery, Tuscola.
Dave was born March 26, 1920, in Tuscola. He was the son of the late David McKinley and Vira Adams Garrett and husband of the late Marie Garrett. He served honorably during World War II with the U.S. Army Air Forces in the Aleutian Islands; he was a member of the Army Airways Communication System.
Dave retired after 32 years with USI, where he worked as a foreman in the electrical department. He enjoyed watching car racing, especially NASCAR and driver Jeff Gordon. In his younger years, he piloted his own single engine plane and loved to go boating. He was a jack of all trades, and could fix anything with or without a motor.
He is survived by his daughters, Bonnie Kerans of Humboldt, Norma Jordan and Bernice Lee, both of Mattoon, and their collective family members; his sister, Virginia Gobble of Tuscola; his niece, Cheryl Gobble McGhee and her husband, Curtis, and their son Garrett of Cary, N.C.; his great-niece, Amanda Burke Jackson, and her husband, Jeremy, and their two sons Hunter and Conner and daughter, Kennedy, of Granger, Ind., and his great-nephew, Matthew Burke of Indianapolis, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his niece, Tanya Sallee Burke; and daughter: Marjorie Decker.
