UPDATED 9:45 p.m. Wednesday
CHAMPAIGN — Investigators remained late Wednesday night at the scene of a fire that damaged a balcony and some siding at a Champaign apartment building.
Nobody was reported hurt.
According to a Champaign Fire Department report, firefighters were called to a three-story building at 1917 Melrose Drive, C., at 7:37 p.m. Wednesday.
When they arrived, they walked around the building and saw a fire on a second-floor balcony extending to some siding and to a soffit.
The people living in the apartments had already evacuated by the time the firefighters arrived.
Firefighters had the fire under control within 15 minutes and left the scene at 9:02 p.m.
Fire Capt. Dave Ferber said investigators remained at the scene to determine where the fire started and what caused it. He said it was too early to determine a dollar amount for the damage.
Ferber said the fire was confined to the outside of the building, but he said there was a little smoke damage on the inside of the building.
