BEMENT – Wayne M. Mayer, 81, of Bement passed away at 9:15 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 24, 2013) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at the Lewis Cemetery, rural Tuscola. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Wayne was born Feb. 24, 1931, in Tuscola, a son of George and Ethel Pigg Mayer. He married Genevieve Durbin and she passed away in January of 1996. He later married Priscilla Casteel on Sept. 13, 2001, and she survives of Arcola.
Surviving are two sons, David (Cheri) Mayer of Monticello, and Mark (Tammy) Mayer of Bement. Also surviving are three step-children, Steve (Bea) McCabe of Clinton, Bob (Ricky) McCabe of Erin, Tenn., and Karen (George) Taylor of Tuscola as well as 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Other survivors include a brother, Bill Mayer of Tuscola; three sisters, Roseanne (Chuck) Crowder of Tuscola, Kate (Bill) Stewart of Creve Coeur and Ruth Goad of Garrett.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; step-son, Michael McCabe; and grandson, Jason McCabe.
Wayne enjoyed being on the farm, gardening and fishing.
Roux-Hinds Funeral Home, 348 N. Piatt St., Bement, has been entrusted by his family to honor Wayne's life.
