URBANA — A Champaign man who admitted he had cocaine in his car when police stopped it last summer has been sentenced to three years in prison.
Matthew West, 30, who listed an address in the 2400 block of Curtis Road, pleaded guilty last week before Champaign County Judge Heidi Ladd to possession of a controlled substance, admitting that on Sept. 12, he had cocaine in his car when a Illinois state trooper stopped him for allegedly speeding on Curtis Road in Champaign.
West was given credit for 140 days already served. Other charges of armed violence for allegedly having a gun in the car; aggravated DUI; possession of a weapon; and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance were dismissed in return for his plea.
So he already served 140 days in jail, which means he will serve about six months in prison. Sounds like a great deal to me, plea guilty to the simple possession and get away with three other felonies. Once again why are they trying to make gun laws stricter when they won't even enforce the ones they have. I'm not talking about the police either, they did thier job, somebody else needs to do theirs. I guess having a gun with your selling drugs is no BIG DEAL!
