CHAMPAIGN — The deadline is Friday for local teen bands to enter the Champaign Park District's fifth annual Battle of the Bands on March 9 at the Parkland College Theatre.
All musical styles and genres are welcome. Band members must be between the ages of 12 and 21, with the majority under 19.
Prizes will include a paid performance at a Champaign Park District event this summer, studio recording time and a chance to perform at the regional Battle of the Bands. The winner of that would then advance to the Battle of the Bands finals at the Illinois State Fair in August.
Applications are available at http://www.champaignparkdistrict.com/events/BattleBandsApp2013.pdf  and due by 5 p.m. Friday. The registration fee is $10 per band and is non-refundable even if the band is not selected.
The applications may be mailed to the Bresnan Meeting Center, attention Elliott Bortner, 706 Kenwood Road, Champaign, IL 61821, or delivered in person between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Bands will be notified by Feb. 15 if they have been accepted.
