Updated 10:30 a.m. Thursday to reflect that Champaign police now say that one of the two men no longer is a suspect in the matter.
CHAMPAIGN — Police who were looking for two area men in a connection with a shooting in northwest Champaign on Sunday night now say one of them no longer is considered a suspect.
Quintin Brown, 21, who listed an address in the 200 block of West Beslin Street, Urbana, is wanted on a warrant issued Monday charging him with the attempted murder of a Rantoul man and aggravated discharge of a firearm for firing a gun in his direction.
Aaron Jamerson, 21, who listed an address in the 1700 block of Scottsdale Drive, Champaign, is no longer a suspect in the case, Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said Thursday morning. Dunn said Jamerson was wrongly identified by the victim.
A release from Champaign police said the 40-year-old man reported he was driving in the 2000 block of Cynthia Drive about 10:30 p.m. Sunday when two men he recognized approached him in a vehicle.
One got out and began firing multiple shots. As the Rantoul man tried to leave the area, the second man pointed a gun at him and also fired several shots.
The Rantoul man was not physically injured.
Both men ran, and police have been unable to find them.
