MONTICELLO — A traffic stop on Interstate 72 led to the arrests of two Decatur men on drug charges.
According to a Piatt County sheriff’s office report, a sheriff’s deputy pulled over a westbound car traveling 69 mph at mile marker 167 northeast of Monticello at 12:39 a.m. Tuesday.
When the deputy reached the vehicle, he detected the smell of raw marijuana.
The deputy ordered both occupants out of the car and searched them. The deputy found a large plastic bag that contained eight smaller plastic bags. The bag contained more than 8.85 ounces of suspected marijuana. The deputy also found $2,650 cash in the vehicle’s glove compartment.
The officer arrested the driver, Cornelius D. Carr, 26, and the passenger, Corey L. Vinson, 26, who both listed Decatur addresses, for manufacture with the intent to deliver marijuana.
Carr was also ticketed for speeding.
They are both being held at the Piatt County Jail on $200,000 bond.
