CHAMPAIGN — Extra police patrols have begun in an area of southwest Champaign following a report of a possible stranger danger situation Wednesday morning in Champaign.
According to a Champaign County sheriff's report, a woman in a black car offered a ride to an 11-year-old boy in the area of Carlisle Drive and Harrington Drive in Champaign between 7 and 7:15 a.m.
The boy refused the ride and the woman drove away.
The report said the child did not know who the woman was.
Champaign County sheriff's Lt. Greg Mills said the boy didn't report the incident to a parent until Thursday.
Mills said the boy's school has been notified about the incident and that extra police patrols have begun in the area since the incident was reported.
Because the incident took place more than a day earlier, Mills said, police don't know how serious the possible threat may have been.
