MONTICELLO — Aldermen this week approved a two-pronged effort aimed at fulfilling Freedom of Information Act requests more efficiently.
The city council approved the purchase of a $6,543 Laserfiche scanner, which will be used to scan old city documents and convert them into a searchable, electronic format.
Also approved was $4,992 to convert the city to a Barracuda email message archiving system.
"This will assist us in fulfilling our FOIA requests — that's the immediate use," said Floyd Allsop, Monticello's superintendent of city services. "It will also allow us to put more documents on our website. That's the ultimate goal."
In January, the council approved a new city website that will allow for more space for posting of city documents. The new site should be up and running by April.
