RANTOUL — A Rantoul teen was arrested Tuesday for allegedly having sexual contact with a 12-year-old girl in Rantoul last summer.
Rantoul police Sgt. Marcus Beach said Christian Tyler Rudzinski, 19, of the 500 block of Glenwood Drive, was arrested at his home Tuesday. On Wednesday, he was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse and indecent solicitation of a child.
Beach said the arrest was the culmination of an ongoing investigation by Rantoul police that started on Aug. 10 when a patrol officer found a dark car parked in the 300 block of Gray Avenue on the former Chanute Air Force Base near a concession stand for the baseball fields.
In the car were Rudzinski and a 12-year-old Rantoul girl, who were both evasive about why they were there. Beach said the girl was taken home and Rudzinski was released.
Police did a forensic interview with the child at the Children’s Advocacy Center and learned from her that she had met Rudzinski over Facebook and that they had communicated through cellphone texts as well. Beach said the girl and Rudzinski made arrangements to meet on the night of Aug. 10 and she willingly got in his car but was not a willing participant in the alleged sexual activity.
Beach said police obtained a search warrant for Rudzinski’s home in the fall, seized his phone and sent it off for forensic testing.
After receiving the results of that test, it was decided to arrest him, Beach said.
Judge Richard Klaus set Rudzinski's bond at $100,000 and told him to be back in court with his own lawyer on Feb. 27.
If convicted of the more serious abuse charge, Rudzinski faces penalties ranging from probation to three to seven years in prison.
