PAXTON — First National Bank in Paxton has reported that it has been seeing instances of someone trying to scam and "phish" financial information from the Paxton public.
The scammers are using the telephone numbers 865-6696 (no area code) or 203-262-1564 with a prerecorded message telling people to call back the number to unblock their debit card. Anyone calling the number is prompted to enter their debit card number and personal identification number.
"If you receive a call from this number, or any number for that matter, do not give them any information," a news release said. "The First National Bank in Paxton already has your card information and can independently verify your identity."
If you receive any call wanting to unblock your card or any activity regarding your finances, First National Bank in Paxton asks that you call immediately at 217-379-2336.
"We will never call you to confirm financial information, or ask you for any over the phone," the release said.
