URBANA — Bond has been set at $100,000 for the arrest of a Champaign man who failed to show up for court on Monday following his arrest over the weekend on drug charges.
Kenyo T. Toombs, 36, who listed an address in the 200 block of West Ells Avenue, Champaign, is being charged with one count of unlawful possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance, one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, one count of criminal trespass to a residence, one count of criminal damage to property and one count of unlawful possession of cannabis.
Toombs was released after posting 10 percent of a $10,000 bond issued over the weekend at bond court.
But when Toombs failed to show up for arraignment court on Monday, Judge Richard Klaus issued a warrant for Toombs’ arrest for failure to appear, with the new bond set for $100,000.
According to a police report, officers were called to the 1000 block of South Mattis Avenue, Champaign, at about 8 a.m. Saturday.
A 24-year-old Champaign woman told police she heard a banging sound outside her apartment. She looked outside and saw Toombs, her ex-boyfriend, standing outside and yelling for her to open the door.
When the woman told him to leave or else she would call 911, Toombs allegedly threw his body into the door, trying to force his way into the apartment. At that point the woman texted a friend to call 911 for her.
After several attempts, Toombs forced his way through the door and entered the apartment, damaging the door and door jam in the process.
The woman told Toombs to leave immediately, but instead he ran upstairs into her bedroom and stayed there until police arrived.
After police ordered Toombs to come out, he left the bedroom holding a pair of his underwear and asked what was wrong. Toombs admitted to police he did not have permission to be in the woman’s home.
As police arrested Toombs, they found a baggy containing 3.6 grams of suspected rock cocaine in his right front pants pocket and a baggy containing 1.4 grams of suspected marijuana. Police also found $544 cash.
