CHAMPAIGN — Champaign police are looking for two men involved in an attack on a 44-year-old man at a bus stop Monday morning.
About 11:30 that morning, Champaign police were responding to a call about the incident at the bus stop at Neil Street and Edgebook Drive when the victim flagged them down on the west side of Neil, just north of Bradley Avenue.
The man told police he had been at the bus stop with a female friend when a man with a baseball bat struck him repeatedly from behind. As that happened, another man pulled on the victim's backpack.
When an MTD bus arrived at the stop, the two men ran west on Edgebrook to a nearby car lot.
The victim and his friend boarded the bus and got off Neil and Bradley to contact police.
The victim was taken by ambulance to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
The incident doesn't appear to be a random attack, according to a news release from the Champaign Police Department.
