URBANA — The Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra on Saturday evening will present the last of four music director finalists, Stephen Alltop, conducting the concert "Classics IV: Orchestral Masters."
The concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Foellinger Great Hall at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts will feature three masterpieces by symphonic composers:
— Sergei Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Major, with Winston Choi, guest pianist. The concerto channels the composer's fiery virtuosity.
— Richard Wagner's "Prelude to Die Meistersinger von Nrnberg" bursts with melodic invention and instrumental color, according to the news release from the symphony.
— Jean Sibelius' Symphony No. 2 in D Major. Heralding Sibelius' arrival as one of music's greatest symphony composers, the second symphony is rich in motivic (of or relating to a motif) nuance.
During this 53rd season, the CUSO will have performed four classics concerts, one holiday concert and two youth concerts, all at Krannert. Tickets to the concert Saturday are $31 for adults, $28 for senior citizens and $5 for students of all ages. For tickets, call the Krannert ticket office at 333-6280.
