URBANA — The Urbana school board is expected to vote Tuesday on a candidate for its next high school principal.
The school board's agenda for a 7:30 p.m. study session includes an action item on whether to make Matthew Stark the next principal at Urbana High School, beginning July 1. (You can view the agenda by clicking this link . It opens as a PDF.)
School district spokeswoman JoAnne Geigner said the school district can't comment on Stark until after the school board votes.
The school board will also vote on the "honorable dismissal of a teacher" and the dismissal of two full-time and two part-time non-union employees who do educational support. The dismissals are for the 2013-14 school year, Geigner said.
Geigner said that vote is a reduction in force, which is when school districts dismiss employees because of economic uncertainty or when a grant isn't renewed.
The school board is also hosting at 7:15 p.m. public hearing Tuesday about "honorable dismissal notices."
The hearing is required by Illinois School Code either when the number of such notices is more than five, or 150 percent of the average number of teachers honorably dismissed in the last three years, whichever is more, according to the public notice for that hearing.
The school board will also meet for an executive session at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to discuss student discipline.
