PAXTON — The city council on Monday voted to enter into a professional services agreement with tax increment financing district attorney Dan Schuering's Municipal Consulting Group for three years at a cost of $22,500 plus expenses.
Schuering spoke to the council about several related items. First he gave aldermen a draft document about creating an economic development and committee that will exist for the 23-year term of the district. The council will vote to approve that next month and committee members can be appointed in May.
Schuering also gave the aldermen an annual letter of certification that acknowledges that the district is operating according to state law and that no aldermen own property in the district. Schuering also presented a draft statement of TIF district policies that aldermen can study and then approve in June.
In other business, the council adjourned its meeting to March 25 in order to study a resident's request to hook up to the city's sewer system, though that property lies outside city limits and is not contiguous to the city. It will also study another resident's request to be annexed to the city and hook onto the sewer. Her property is contiguous to the city.
