All day, we'll break down each team's chances at the Big Ten tournament at the United Center:
No 6 seed: Iowa
Their coach ... would give Tom Crean a run for his money in the “Raving Maniac Sweepstakes.” Fran McCaffery has thrown as many chairs as he’s won games in the Big Ten tournament (one).
Their MVP ... finally can take his dad (Roy Marble, above) in one-on-one. Roy Devyn Marble has averaged 17.6 points in his last eight games, making 91 percent of his free throws.
Their Chicago connection ... is they own the city’s “Big Ten team,” sweeping first-round opponent Northwestern this season to increase their series advantage to 110-57.
They’ll cut down the nets if ... history repeats itself. The only other time Iowa was a No. 6 seed, Steve Alford led Jeff Horner, Greg Brunner & Co. to an unlikely title in ‘06, kicking off their run against — you guessed it — Northwestern.
They’ll be bummed if ... they shoot threes like Joakim Noah. Making 29.9 percent of their arc shots, the Hawkeyes rank 11th in the Big Ten
We see the Hawkeyes ... falling just short in their bid to reach the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2006. To get there, they need to win at least two games. A quarterfinal loss to Michigan State ends the dream.
