A strike by Allied Waste employees in Ohio has had an impact in Champaign-Urbana.
Union employees of Allied Waste in Urbana have been in contract negotiations with Teamsters Local 26 for several months. They have been working without a contract since July 1.
And Teamsters Local 26 Secretary-Treasurer Tim Donovan says about 20 employees walked off the job Thursday morning.
But Donovan said the work stoppage here is not related to those negotiations, but rather is a show of support to workers in Ohio.
Donovan added that workers in Evansville, Ind., also are honoring the Ohio strike.
He says he doesn’t expect employees in Champaign-Urbana to go back to work until the strike in Ohio ends.
Meanwhile, Donovan said another bargaining session has been scheduled for April 9 between Allied Waste of Urbana and Teamsters Local 26.
