CLINTON — A 1950s garage-themed restaurant fell victim to an Easter evening fire on Sunday, but no one was hurt, according to fire officials.
Ted’s Garage, at 808 W. Van Buren St. in Clinton, burned for hours on Sunday evening. Firefighters got the initial call at 5:18 p.m. and were still battling the fire at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday night, said David Dallas of the Clinton Fire Department.
Built in a former car dealership, the retro diner featured American grill food, antique gas pumps and a showroom with classic cars.
Dallas said the fire appeared to have started in a building that sits behind Ted’s Garage and it spread to the restaurant. Firefighters did not yet know what caused the blaze, but the damage was “pretty extensive.”
