URBANA — Robbery charges filed in December against a local man were dismissed Monday.
Champaign County Assistant State's Attorney Lindsey Clark said she dismissed armed robbery and aggravated robbery charges against Lamont Taylor-Gwin, 22, because the victims had not cooperated with his prosecution.
Taylor-Gwin, who listed addresses in the 300 block of Kerr Avenue, Urbana, and the 100 block of East Washington Street, Champaign, was arrested Dec. 12 by two Champaign police detectives — both Ironman triathletes — who were able to run him down on a city street to question him about the alleged robbery.
Taylor-Gwin had been accused of taking a backpack containing cash from a young man and woman as they walked near First and Washington streets about 1:25 a.m. Dec. 12. He was allegedly armed with a handgun.
Clark said the couple, who knew Taylor-Gwin previously, were unwilling to help her prepare for a trial, causing her to dismiss the felony charges against him.
