URBANA — A 15-year-old Urbana boy who admitted he exposed himself to and touched a younger girl inappropriately has been sentenced to juvenile prison for an indeterminate time.
Champaign County Assistant State's Attorney Scott Bennett said Judge Heidi Ladd sentenced the teen earlier this week for aggravated battery. He had pleaded guilty to that offense in juvenile court in February after initially being charged as an adult with two sex-related felonies.
The more serious charges were dismissed and the case was transferred to juvenile court.
The boy was arrested because of an Oct. 22 incident in which he was with two girls, ages 13 and 12, whom he knew. They left the Urbana Free Library together and, as they walked in the 400 block of East Green Street, he directed the girls to an outside stairwell, where the inappropriate conduct occurred.
The youth had a prior juvenile adjudication for aggravated battery for which Ladd had sentenced him to prison in February 2012, then vacated the commitment in June, putting him on probation.
The incident with the girls then happened in October.
